What Is Collaborative Law?
Instead of going before a judge, the two
wife and husband and their attorneys sit down together to work out the details of the dissolution of their marriage. They negotiate instead of
litigate. The negotiation is about what is in the
best interests of both parties, rather than the
parties trying to hold a fixed, pre-determined
position. They then arrive at an agreeable resolution that is in the best interests of all parties. Because they are collaborating instead of fighting, the process of reaching a decision takes much less time, costs a lot less money, and causes far less hurt that will later need to be healed. |
